Genesis Chapter One

Proverbs  16:3

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and they thoughts shall be established!

The Greek word genesis can mean “birth,” “genealogy,” “history of origin,” or “source.”

Genesis

  • Is the foundational book to the rest of the Bible
  • It covers more time than any other book in the Bible

Genesis Chapter One

V1: God created the heaven and the the earth. This refutes atheism, the big bang theory, evolution, pantheism ( someone who believes that God and the universe are the same) and polytheism ( Polytheism is the belief in and/or worship of multiple deities, called gods and/or goddesses).

V2: And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters

  • In John 1:3 it says that ALL (this also means me and you) things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
  •

V6: Let there firmament in the midst of the waters and let it divide the waters from the waters.

  • Firmament “expanse between the water vapor  form over the earth. Waters upon the earth  supernaturally elevated above the atmosphere creating a greenhouse effect. This caused a tropical climate throughout the earth until the great flood came.

V26: Let us make man in our image after our likeness

  • Likeness and image refer to man’s spiritual resemblance
  • Image representation or replica of one person by another image may be similar but not identical to the original
  • When man fell  he retained an impaired  image of God.
  • Regaining likeness of God is one of the accomplishments of SALVATION!
  • Our spiritual likeness is restored in justification
  • Character likeness being continuously developed in process of SANTIFICATION

We have the promise that we will be Christ like when we are glorified!

V29: Have given you every herb bearing seed, Every tree in which is fruit of a tree yielding seed to you it shall be for meat.

  • No actual animal flesh was condoned until after the Flood

Man’s body was created from dust and only became a living soul after Gof breathed the breath of life into his nostrils.

Adam had 6 obligations unto the lord

  1. Replenish earth with children
  2. Use nature for physical needs
  3. Have dominion over animal life
  4. Eat fruits and vegetables
  5. Labor for his sustenance
  6. Obey God by abstaining from eating the forbidden fruit

Getting a plan together

My husband and I are going to read the entire Bible this year. I’m trying to think of the best way to go about this. I have started reaing in I Samuel, but I think that I want to start in Genesis and work my way through the Bible from beginning to end.

I think that is how I will do it read a few Chapters starting from the beginning and write a journal, with questions, what I am getting from the verses, how i feel like God wants me to interpret them for my own life. I believe that one verse to can mean something totally different to someone else, that is why i love the Bible. It is not like a novel. You can read a novel over and over and it still has the same meaning the same ending the same underlying issues. The Bible on the other hand you can read the same verse for a week and everyday that verse will probally mean something completly different to you than it did the other day.

I know that the devil will tempt me and put issues in my way to where I wont have time to open the Bible one day or i just may have that run down feeling. I have decided at this very moment, I am not, just not going to allow that to happen. One of the memories I have growing up as a child was my mother reading her Bible everyday, she would get up so early to read. I always thought to myself why is she up so early. I guess i understand now that I have a daughter and responsibilities, the day goes by so quickly, if you put if off it just won’t get done. Another reason I believe she done it was because it helped her live her Christian life day by day. My mother is an amazing woman, i would never be able to tell her that to her face, because i would just end of up in tears lol. I guess I need to get over showing those loving emotions.

I am a work in progress and i can’t wait till the end result. I am so thankful for the loving family that I have and I only want to be the best in return to them.

In the front of my Bible i am not sure who said it but it has stayed with me since I was younger. It is a statement “The Bible will keep you from sin or sin will keep you from the Bible.” That is so true. I want to be the best example for my daughter, I change that I am going to be the best example for my daughter. I am going to show her through my love of Christ how much I truly love her.

The Bible is not meant merely to inform, but to transform.
